Sodium Coco Sulfate

Sodium Coco Sulfate (SCS) is a solid, plant-derived surfactant made by sulfating the fatty alcohols from coconut oil. It is commonly used in shampoo bars, body bars, and other solid cleansers for its ability to create a dense, bubbly foam. Compared to sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), SCS is gentler because it is derived from the whole range of fatty acids in coconut oil rather than a single isolated one. This makes it an effective yet balanced cleanser for skin and hair.

Where You’ll Find It in Fyrn

We use Sodium Coco Sulfate as the backbone of our solid cleansing bars, where rich foam and rinseability are essential. It appears in:

  • Future solid shampoo bar formulations

Safety Notes

Sodium Coco Sulfate is considered safe in rinse-off products when used at recommended levels. Like other sulfates, it can be drying at higher concentrations, which is why Fyrn always blends it with conditioning agents and emollients for a balanced formula. Avoid inhaling powdered form during handling.
