Cetearyl Alcohol (Cetyl & Stearyl Alcohol Blend)

Cetearyl Alcohol is a plant-derived fatty alcohol, created from a blend of cetyl and stearyl alcohol (50/50). Unlike drying alcohols, this ingredient is emollient and conditioning — it helps soften skin and hair, add richness, and improve product texture. In our formulations, we use Cetearyl Alcohol to thicken and stabilize lotions and conditioners while leaving a silky, velvety after-feel.

Why We Use It

We choose Cetearyl Alcohol for its ability to:

  • Add body and creaminess to lotions and conditioners

  • Stabilize emulsions for a smooth, even texture

  • Deliver a soft, velvety feel on skin and hair

  • Support thicker, richer textures without heaviness

In our products, it helps lotions absorb beautifully and conditioners coat hair evenly, enhancing softness and manageability.

Good to Know

  • Cosmetic grade only — not for food use

  • Common use levels: 1–8% in lotions/creams; higher in anhydrous formulas like balms

  • Provides slip and conditioning without the dryness of simple alcohols

  • Overuse can create a waxy feel, so it’s balanced carefully in our formulas
